About Us

We build fly rods customized to your desires.

There are no stock rods available. Each rod is unique and built considering your personal preferences for performance, style and budget. If you are interested in a factory “look alike” rod, these are also custom-built on request. A custom “look alike” rod is different from the factory version in it's feel and it's detailed workmanship.

Our rods begin with first quality blanks that include the manufacturer's warranty. Any section(s) of the rod that are replaced by the manufacturer's warranty can also be rebuilt by On The Fly Custom Rods . The Rebuild cost is $25.00 plus shipping (manufacturer warranty charges are not payable by On The Fly Custom Rods ).

Building a Custom Rod is much more than wrapping the guides and putting on the finish. On The Fly builds each rod with the highest performance, quality and style in mind.

All blanks are “spined” and built according to your preference. We discuss your desired rod action in order to provide the custom feel expected. All wraps are done in proportion to the guide size being used. Inlays and tippets are included on all On The Fly Custom Rods . Also, you can choose from a variety of wrap colors and wrap styles for your rod. We focus on traditionally styled wraps, but other layout weaves are available. Non-traditional weave designs and pricing are discussed at the time of order.

We make recommendations for components to match the blank you have selected. We are also able to build a rod to your exact specifications as to components. Click on the Rods Tab for a list of our preferred manufacturers. Keep in mind that quality products provide the best overall performance and appearance.

In addition to building your rod, On The Fly will provide you with information to help you choose the reel best-suited for your custom rod. This is determined based on the Angler's desire to have a neutral or tip-forward rod.

We also have available numerous styles and sizes of rod tubes to protect your On The Fly Custom Rod .
